We built Terms & Conditions Summarizer to help you understand complex legal pages in plain language — not to collect your data, spy on your browsing, or sell anything to advertisers. This Privacy Policy explains exactly what data we collect (spoiler: very little), how we use it (we don't), and what you can control (everything).

📌 Summary

We don't collect personal data.

We don't track your browsing activity.

We don't sell or share anything with third parties.

We follow the principle: No login, no tracking, no nonsense.

1. What Data Do We Collect?

By default: nothing.

The extension runs locally in your browser and performs all summarization tasks on-demand — initiated by you. We don't require accounts, we don't log actions, and we never ask for sensitive information.

Minimal Local Storage

We only store the following settings on your device:

Key Type Purpose
language string Stores your preferred translation language
highlight bool Remembers whether to highlight legal risks

These values are saved using chrome.storage.local and:

  • Stay 100% on your machine
  • Can be reset or deleted anytime
  • Are not shared or uploaded

2. What Permissions Do We Use?

Here's what our extension asks for — and why:

Permission Why We Need It
activeTab To read the text on the page you're summarizing
storage To save your language/highlight preferences locally
<all_urls> To allow the summarizer to work on any site

Important: These permissions do not allow us to:

  • Read your browser history
  • Track which sites you visit
  • Access cookies or login data

We only run when you click the extension, and we never execute code in the background.

3. Is Any Data Sent to Servers?

Yes — but only when summarizing or translating, and only the legal text you ask us to process.

Gemini Flash 2.0 API

The extension sends selected legal text to Gemini's summarization API.

  • The request is stateless — no cookies, no session, no IP logging.
  • The result (summary) is immediately shown in the extension UI.
Google Translate API (optional)

If enabled, summaries are sent to the Translate API for language conversion.

  • This is opt-in and can be disabled in settings.
  • Neither API request includes personal data or identifiers.

4. Do We Use Analytics?

No.

We don't use:

  • Google Analytics
  • Segment
  • Mixpanel
  • Any telemetry or fingerprinting system

We don't care where you click. We just want the extension to work.

5. Do We Share Data with Third Parties?

Never.

We do not — and will never — sell, share, or trade user data. We're not an ad-tech company, and we don't rely on monetization through data brokering.

6. Children's Privacy

This extension is not intended for use by children under 13. That said, we don't collect personal information from anyone — child or adult — so there's no risk of accidental data handling.

7. How Can You Control Your Data?

You're in full control at all times.

You can:

  • View or reset settings via the extension menu.
  • Remove the extension anytime from Chrome or Edge.
  • Clear all extension data from browser settings (chrome://extensions → "Details" → "Clear data").

8. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy if we add features that affect your data. But:

  • We'll never sneak in tracking or analytics.
  • We'll always post updates here.
  • We'll clearly highlight changes in the extension UI if needed.

🙋 FAQ

No. All processing is local, and any API calls are stateless.

Yes. Use the browser DevTools → Network tab to inspect every request.

Not planned. If that changes, it will be 100% optional and explained upfront.
